โœ“ Now on Google Play

MoneySaver is on Google Play

MoneySaver now comes from the Play Store, and updates arrive on their own: no more coming back here for them.

To Android, the version on Play is a different app from this one: it does not install over it, so your data has to be moved by hand. It lives only on your phone โ€” no account, no cloud โ€” which is why you are the one who moves it. It takes five minutes.

๐Ÿ‘‡ Follow the steps to move your data, so you don't lose what you have already entered.

Moving your data, in order

Steps 2 and 5 are only needed if you use recurring expenses. If in doubt, do them anyway: if you have none, they cost nothing.

The version from this site is in Italian only, so its menus are written here exactly as you will see them, with the English next to them.

  1. Save a backup of your data

In this app: Altro โ†’ Dati โ†’ Salva un backup

    More โ†’ Data โ†’ Save a backup

  2. only if you use recurring expenses

    Save the recurring rules too

    Altro โ†’ Ricorrenti โ†’ โ‹ฎ โ†’ Salva su file

More โ†’ Recurring โ†’ โ‹ฎ (top right) โ†’ Save to file

The recurring rules are not in the backup from step 1: they have a file of their own. If in doubt, do it anyway โ€” if you have none, it costs nothing.

  3. Install MoneySaver from Google Play

It is the same MoneySaver: from now on, updates arrive on their own.

    Get it on Google Play
  4. In the new app, before entering anything: restore

More โ†’ Data โ†’ Restore from a backup

Restoring replaces whatever is there: an expense entered beforehand would be deleted.

  5. if you did step 2

    Restore the recurring rules

Open More โ†’ Recurring. If there is a โ‹ฎ at the top right: โ‹ฎ โ†’ Restore from file

If there is no โ‹ฎ: More โ†’ Data โ†’ Restore from a backup and pick the rules file. The app recognizes it and replaces only the recurring entries.

In this order, after step 4: the rules hook onto your categories, and in an app that is still empty they cannot find them.

  6. Check that everything is there, then uninstall this version

As long as it stays installed, your data is still in it: if something doesn't add up, go back in and make another backup.

โ“˜ Where things are. More is the tab in the bottom bar; Recurring is in the Manage section; backup and restore are in the Data section. In the old version they are called Altro, Ricorrenti, Gestione and Dati, and the new app shows them the same way if your phone is set to Italian. If you can't find Ricorrenti under Altro, your version doesn't have them: skip steps 2 and 5.

What changes from your version

From 1.13, the last one you could install from here, to the one on Google Play.

New

  • The app is now in English too, if your phone is set to English or if you pick it in the settings.
  • Light theme, dark theme or the system's, your choice in the settings.
  • The app works in landscape too. Your version was locked to portrait; now it rotates, and the statistics make use of the wide screen.
  • When a list is empty, it tells you, and it tells you why: first launch, a month with no transactions, or filters that are too narrow.
  • After saving, the list takes you to the transaction you just entered, instead of leaving you to look for it.

Fixed

  • You can now enter cents. You can type the decimal comma, and a dot is read as the decimal separator too.
  • The "+" button leaves room for the system buttons on phones with three-button navigation.
โš ๏ธ A check worth doing after the restore. In the old version, an amount typed with a dot was saved a hundred times larger โ€” 1.23 became โ‚ฌ123. The bug is fixed, but the amounts already recorded stay as they are and the backup carries them over: if you ever used the dot, check those transactions again.
